VON ORMY, TX — On Monday, May 25, 2026, the South Texas community will come together for a powerful day of remembrance, unity, and purpose during the inaugural Dia de los Warriors Memorial March and Festival.
This 22-kilometer (13.7-mile) ruck march is intentionally designed to honor the 22 veterans lost to suicide each day in the United States, serving as both a tribute and a call to action.
Rooted in South Texas’ deep military heritage and culture of service, the event brings together residents, veterans, and families to honor those who have sacrificed for our country. Participants will march through Von Ormy and Somerset in organized 22-person squads, symbolizing the daily loss of veterans and the strength of community standing together.
Along the route, participants will pause to honor local fallen heroes, including:
“This isn’t just a walk, it’s a living memorial,” said lead organizer and veteran Franco Abundes. “By marching in 22-person elements, we are putting a face to the veteran crisis. We ruck to remember those we’ve lost, and we celebrate at the finish line to show that no warrior stands alone.”

Registration Fee: $20
(Includes lunch, water, and event t-shirt)
Memorial Day is more than a long weekend, it is a day set aside to honor the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our country.
Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day began after the Civil War as a time for Americans to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers. Over time, it became a national day of remembrance for all who have died in military service.
For many, the true meaning of Memorial Day has been lost. It is not about celebration, don't say "Happy Memorial Day," it is about remembrance, sacrifice, and honor.
The Dia de los Warriors Memorial March & Festival is dedicated to remembering those who never made it home and to standing with the families and fellow service members who carry that loss every day.
We walk not only for those who served, but for:
